THE AWARDS CEREMONY
Every year since its birth, TIPA has organized an official event at special locations to celebrate the handing over of the TIPA Awards trophies to representatives of the winning companies. The Awards ceremony is one of the most important events for the association as it is the time to meet members of the industry in a friendly and relaxed environment and be able to exchange opinions and comments on photography.
In 2001, the ceremony was scheduled in Amsterdam on September 14th. After the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11th, the event was immediately cancelled. Having already budgeted all the expenses due for the cancelled event, TIPA donated 10,000 US Dollars saved from the estimated costs to Reporters sans Frontières (Reporters without Borders), a non-profit organization that works to improves the safety of journalists photographers reporting in war zones, defends those imprisoned and battles against censorship.
In 2004, TIPA signed a long-term agreement with Koelnmesse GmbH, creating a partnership between TIPA and the photokina, the world’s most important imaging trade show, and designating Koelnmesse as conceptual sponsor and host of the TIPA Awards ceremony. Koelnmesse's aim is to support TIPA activities that promote innovative imaging products. During the trade show years, the Awards ceremony is held directly during photokina on the Koelnmesse fairgrounds in Cologne, Germany.
