Most Coveted Photo and Imaging Awards Worldwide
TIPA Awards are recognised as the most coveted photo and imaging awards worldwide. When TIPA member magazines began the TIPA Awards, they decided that they wanted an award the industry could be very proud of. Only products that the General Assembly think deserve our recognition are taken into consideration for voting.
Every year, TIPA editors vote for the best photo and imaging products introduced to the market during the previous 12 months. TIPA editors take into account innovation, the use of leading-edge technology, design and ergonomics, ease-of-use, as well as price/performance ratio. Since TIPA member magazines range in content and goals, the award voting process benefits from a wide range of expertise. As a result, the TIPA Awards are bestowed through a majority of votes by very experienced editors.
Every year, there are many different kinds of awards presented in all sectors of commerce, industry, and the arts. Some are sold, others are bought. But thanks to our independent voting procedure, only the products that really deserve it can unexpectedly win a TIPA Award. And that is why they are so prestigious.
Choosing the Winners
The list of the TIPA Awards categories is regularly updated according to the market's technological trends. Therefore, the categories continually change and some categories awarded in past editions may not be taken into consideration for the next TIPA Awards. In any case, TIPA drops or adds categories as it sees fit in order to reflect the current industry trends.
TIPA attaches great importance to the choice of the awards each year. The electoral process is conducted in several stages. In addition to the board that comprises five members, a technical committee has been formed, which additionally includes three other members.
In early January each year, the Technical Committee arranges a first list of the categories. Each member of the Technical Committee makes a note of their choices and suggestions. This list evolves as new products are introduced to the market. Testing continues until late February when the Technical Committee meets with the Board for a discussion meeting. Here not only is the choice of the best products discussed but also the need to create a new category or remove another.
Following this meeting, a list of 40 categories is developed. This list of categories and suggested products is then sent to all the magazines that are members of TIPA. Each member can then add their suggestions and comments. The list continues to evolve as products are released and tests performed.
A member of the Technical Committee prepares a short description of each product proposed. Then, in a plenary session, during the Annual General Meeting that brings together all the members of TIPA, a final vote is held to determine the definitive selection of that year’s 40 TIPA Awards. It is the vote of all TIPA members that is decisive, supported by the recommendations of the Technical Committee. The winning companies are informed just a few days later of their awards. Each TIPA magazine will then publish an article presenting the 40 products that are this year’s winners.
