TIPA General Assembly Convenes: Welcomes Three New Members

Madrid, 10 June 2020

The General Assembly of the Technical Image Press Association convened on 5 June, with 24 member magazine representatives from around the world joining in on an unprecedented online Zoom assembly. After the representatives of the member publications were welcomed, the assembly took up matters at hand, including budgets and future planning, with reports from Thomas Gerwers, chairman of TIPA, and Roland Franken, treasurer.

In ordinary times, the business reports are followed by voting on the TIPA World Awards, but given the circumstances the balloting took place earlier this year via online voting, the results of which can be viewed on the TIPA website, tipa.com. The organization is pleased with the worldwide press coverage the 2020 TIPA World Awards received, and wishes to thank the winners for their enthusiastic support.

An important part of the General Assembly is consideration of new members in the organization, and presentations were made from three new publications, all of whom were welcomed to the group. The new members include Digital Imaging Reporter, the trade publication of record of the photo and imaging industry in the US; rangefinderonline.com, a web site for professional and aspiring pro photographers with a wide following around the world; and DIGIFOTO Pro, a Dutch magazine for enthusiast photographers. These publications continue in the tradition of a dynamic mix that appeals to every segment and level of photography and imaging that is a hallmark of the association.

At the close of the meeting the members voted to reconfirm three members of the board for another four-year term: Thomas Gerwers as Chairman, Roland Franken as Treasurer, and Johan Elzenga as Secretary.

Said Thomas Gerwers in closing, “These are extraordinary times and while our preference of course would be to meet in person we felt it was important to continue to support the photo and imaging industry by going ahead with our meetings and awards. I salute each member for the hard work they have put in during these challenging times for both their own business and the industry at large. I trust that next year we will be able to meet in person and that with all your support the industry will once again grow and thrive. I wish you, your family, friends and associates the best. We are all in the same boat and if we work together, we will stand together to look back on this time and realize the importance of mutual support and understanding, especially in the most difficult of times.”
