Tokyo, Japan – The annual Camera Grand Prix 2026 awards ceremony, organized by the Camera Journal Press Club (CJPC), brought together leading representatives of Japan’s imaging industry, photographic media, and manufacturers to celebrate outstanding achievements in camera and lens development.
Representing the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA), Chairman Thomas Gerwers attended the ceremony in Tokyo, underlining the long-standing partnership between the two organizations. While rooted in different regions of the world, both CJPC and TIPA share a common mission: recognizing excellence in imaging technology and supporting innovation in photography.
In his address to the audience, Gerwers highlighted the importance of international cooperation at a time when the imaging industry is undergoing profound transformation.
“Photography has always connected people across cultures and borders. Today, this connection is more important than ever. We are witnessing enormous changes in the imaging industry — from AI-supported workflows and computational photography to entirely new forms of visual communication. In such times, independent journalism and expert evaluation remain essential.”
One of the most interesting aspects of the collaboration between CJPC and TIPA is the opportunity to compare perspectives from different markets and editorial cultures. While the Camera Grand Prix reflects the expertise and traditions of Japan’s photographic community, the TIPA World Awards are determined by editors and experts from leading imaging publications around the world.
This year’s results once again demonstrated a remarkable level of international consensus regarding the industry’s most outstanding products.
The Sony Alpha 7 V, selected as Camera of the Year by the Camera Grand Prix jury, was also honored with a TIPA World Award for Best Full Frame Expert Camera. Likewise, the Sony FE 50–150mm F2 GM, recipient of the Camera Grand Prix Lens of the Year Award, was recognized by TIPA as Best Full Frame Telephoto Zoom Lens. The Canon EOS R6 Mark III, which received the Camera Grand Prix Readers’ Award, was also selected by TIPA as Best Hybrid Full Frame Camera.
“These parallels demonstrate that truly outstanding products are recognized worldwide — regardless of market or region,” Gerwers noted during his speech.
At the same time, the Camera Grand Prix and the TIPA World Awards each retain their own distinct identity and traditions. The Camera Grand Prix remains one of Japan’s most respected imaging awards, while the TIPA World Awards bring together the international imaging press and industry this year during Imaging World in Nuremberg, Germany.
TIPA congratulates all Camera Grand Prix 2026 winners and extends its sincere thanks to the Camera Journal Press Club for its hospitality, friendship, and many years of successful cooperation. Both organizations look forward to further strengthening their partnership and continuing to support photographic innovation on a global scale.
