New home base for a coveted prize: TIPA World Awards 2021 to be presented at PHOTOPIA Hamburg

Hamburg, 7 April 2021

The TIPA World Award is a coveted prize among companies of the imaging industry. This year the popular award ceremony will take place both live during PHOTOPIA Hamburg from 23 to 26 September, and virtually. The Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) is a new and exclusive partner for Hamburg Messe und Congress – an industry leader with an international footprint. Other organisations which have announced their official participation in the event include Photoindustrie-Verband (Photo Industry Association), Online Marketing Rockstars and the Reeperbahn Festival.

Under the banner of “Share Your Vision”, the four-day live event will be celebrated on the Hamburg Messe exhibition campus and at various locations throughout the city. It will be open to all photography and filming professionals and enthusiasts.

Bernd Aufderheide, President and CEO, Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH, said: “We feel honoured that the Technical Image Press Association shares the general enthusiasm about the unconventional concept of PHOTOPIA Hamburg. For nearly three decades the TIPA World Awards have been honouring exemplary and forward-looking photographic products developed by visionaries of the photo industry. This makes the award a great fit for our PHOTOPIA motto. I congratulate TIPA on its 30-year anniversary, which we will celebrate duly together with the leaders of the imaging industry in September.”

“The Technical Image Press Association TIPA is looking forward to the official presentation of its awards during the new PHOTOPIA Hamburg this year. The photography and imaging industry needs physical events that are custom-tailored to the needs of the photography scene to avoid being eclipsed by the entertainment electronics sector,” said Thomas Gerwers, Chairman of TIPA.

Said Kai Hillebrandt, chairman of the executive board of the Photo Industry Association: “As partners to PHOTOPIA Hamburg we are obviously delighted to see the network of industry journalists continue to present their top-ranking industry awards in Germany. This decision by TIPA highlights the global interest in the new event format which will provide an excellent setting for the TIPA World Awards right in the middle of the vibrant and cosmopolitan media hub that is Hamburg.”

“Preparations for 29th edition of the awards ceremony in parallel with those for PHOTOPIA Hamburg are in full swing since the nomination phase for the individual categories has begun already. A total of 40 product innovations will be chosen for an award by the interest group TIPA which consists of editors of photographic publications from 26 different magazines produced in 14 countries. The award categories cover a wide spectrum of products, from the best compact cameras to professional equipment, and from interchangeable lenses and lighting equipment to monitors and software, and through to photographic accessories.

The Technical Image Press Association was established in 1991. The TIPA World Awards have been given since 1992 to honour top-quality photography and image processing products. The award is a key benchmark for the industry, appreciated by photo enthusiasts as well as amateur and professional photographers around the world.
