The Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) successfully celebrated the XXII edition of the TIPA Awards Ceremony on 18 September during photokina, the worldメs leading imaging fair, in Cologne, Germany. Representatives of the winning companies were welcomed by the TIPA board and members. The winning products were selected by the TIPA members in the General Assembly held in Cape Town, South Africa. During the ceremony the bronze trophies were presented for the 40 winning products.
TIPA today is now a globalized organisation with members from five continents. Although the roots of the organisation are in Europe, the TIPA awards go to the best photo and imaging products in the world and are promoted by the TIPA member magazines in print and online.
This year for the first time TIPA not only gave awards to the best photo and imaging products of the year but also held the TIPA "One World" Photo Contest. It was created to celebrate the beauty and diversity of our world, a world where cultures and civilizations meet, communicate and interact with one another. The jury’s winning image depicts a demonstration during the ‘Arab Spring’ uprising in Egypt, showing an onlooker taking a picture or video with the latest Western gadget, an Apple iPad. Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamed Mahmoud Abd Elmolaa of Egypt took the winning photograph and became TIPAメs first International Award Winning Photographer.
During this year’s General Assembly the co-founder and long time chairman and board member of TIPA, Mr Juan Varela, was elected as "Honorary President for Life". There is no doubt that in the future, Mr. Varela will remain a sought-after observer of the world of photography and that he will be sorely missed in TIPA, where he was one of its most active leaders. Without him and his tireless dedication, TIPA would certainly not have become the organisation that it is today.
